British artist Alan Lee is a renowned illustrator of J. R. R. Tolkien's books and a conceptual designer on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, for which he received an Academy Award. Lee's watercolor illustrations adorn the centenary edition of The Lord of the Rings, and he also illustrated Tolkien's Ring and an edition of The Hobbit. Lee received the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal for Black Ships Before Troy, and the Best Artist Award at the World Fantasy Awards of 1998. His other film credits include conceptual design on Legend and Erik the Viking.
-Taken from the Free Library website. I will MOST DEFINETLY be there, unless I happen to become deathly ill or fall down a flight of stairs, so feel free to meet up with me and come along. Keep in mind that it's a free event, but that means we'll have to get there way in advance in order to guarantee ourselves good seats, or any seat at all. And trust me, you've seen his artwork: I have that edition of the book, so if you want an example...(maybe I can stalk him and get him to sign it).
