Yeah, I'm a bad gakusei...
Sep. 14th, 2005 10:32 pmI haven't dropped off the face of the earth, in case anyone was wondering. Friday night I went to a party at Joe's new apartment, which is above the New Deck, and awesome (at which Simon asked me out...caught between "ick" and "I have not seen you in five years" I mean, he's a good friend, but). Saturday I went to the Fringe Festival with Dave, drove on 95 and almost killed us (no, not really...everything came back in tact). Saw 40 year old virgin, too, which was surprisingly absolutely hilarious. Monday watched the Eagles with Jeanne. I love my old high school friends so much. It's been the busiest weekend of the summer, and it's not even the summer anymore.
In between, I've been frantically trying to get reading done and get accustomed to the new job. I love all of my kids, even if one of them is a psychopath...
Funnily, and the reason why I decided to update, I had to share this, every wednesday I see Murata-sensei on the trolley to thirtieth street station. We sit and talk, it's great. I told her I'm not taking Japanese anymore because it doesn't fit into my schedule (partially true). She told me it's a hard commute down to Penn, but her shujin works for the Japanese government in NYC so they really can't move...he can't switch jobs. I thought that was impressive. Murata-sensei is so nice! I think she's my favorite Penn Professor, maybe before Gamer.
Angel Cage was apparently translated, I bought the copy today. I was like, hey, pretty, I don't have this. And it has Cain pictures!
Robinson Crusoe needs to stop moralizing. But I'm reading Conrad's Heart of Darkness for 20th c. lit., and the language is beautiful. Almost worth suffering through Neizsche.
