Yesterday's Live 8 concert was not the disaster that I, and everyone else, thought it would be...it was fun! Me, my friends Susan and Sarah, and Sarah's little sister went down by the first R8. It was full of college age kids. Then we met up with Dave, who had been there since six and had saved a great spot on the art museum lawn, to the left of the fountain. He had blankets down and a cooler of water. We were afraid to drink it, though, for fear of the porta-potties.

Anyway, the day was hot, but the music was good. My favorites were Will Smith (amazingly, he put on a good show), Def Leppard, and espeacially Linkin Park and Jay Z...they really rocked out. Every so often they would broadcast clips from London, Rome, or Berlin if the artist was popular in the US. Everyone was peaceful, we were all there to have a good time; and it was amazing to look back at the parkway and see just a sea of people stretching out into the distance. There weren't many protesters. There was one group holding up "End the Bush Regime" signs in front of us, but Sarah and a lot of others threw water bottles at them so we could see, and they put the signs down.

I feel bad for suggesting this, but I wonder how much good that the concerts will do for the children of Africa. I hope they do good. But a lot of people there were there to see the artists more so than support the cause, and the concerts didn't raise any money. They raised "awareness."

So, that's my Live 8 report.

Today I am sun burnt, tired and crampy, so I'm a little bitter. Then my one friend told me that if she throws a party for her 21st birthday, I couldn't drink because I'm a minor. wtf? Who does that? Then she tells me how young I am. ?! I'm almost twenty, and you're twenty. Anyway...it had me a little mad.

Speaking of birthdays, some friends and I are planning to go see Bewitched and then go out to eat on July 16, if anyone wants to come, you're welcome to.

And also, Happy Independence Day weekend, everyone! It's certainly a great time to be in Philly.

EDIT: Neil Gaiman did an interview with the Gorillaz! Ahh! The awesomeness!

I'm glad you had fun at Live 8!

Yeah, I'm feeling a big wtf? over what your friend said to you, too. I mean, unless she wants to go to a bar to celebrate, it shouldn't be an issue. Eh, whatever.

LOL, I'm doing birthday stuff the next two weekends in a row! Sure, I want to come too.

Yep, Live 8 was fun! And at least I'm not the only one who thinks that was wierd of her, it's only a party at her apartment...well. She's not the most mature girl in the world, so I'm trying not to hold it against her.

hehe, yay for birthday stuff! I still am amazed at how many people manage to be born in the summer. Or at least, people I know.

Anyway, it should be fun! I really want to see Bewitched, even though I heard it sucks...but who cares what critics say anyway? :)

They showed clips of Live 8 and people fainting in Philly on my local news, and I looked for you...but I didn't see you. :(

I'm there, as long as my boss doesn't schedule me for the weekend. I'll find out before the end of the week.

yay live 8! i know about the whole "awareness" thing. America and it's corporate "let's do things for other people" sickens me because nothing really substantial gets done. it's sad really. oh well. they try. sorta.
