So I interviewed for the TOS position yesterday, and it went really
well. The area coordinators are super-nice people, and they really
liked me. They would have hired me on the spot had it not been for my
class schedule, that did not leave enough morning hours open. I went
home and tried to look for later classes, but to no avail. So I didn't
get the position. It looks like I will be a Library Intern for the
upcoming school year. (Luckily Theresa still wants me). Perhaps it's
for the best. School does come first. But now that I don't have it I
realized how much I wanted it.
On to some HBP commentary. Mostly on Remus. Don't read if you haven't read the christmas chapter, and you don't know what Tonks has been angsting about.
So I think it's great that JK has him run off with the werewolves, as that's what every fan had already speculated. I wonder if she sometimes gets her ideas from fans if it's not a major character. I similarly think it's great that he doesn't die, and instead gets some love. (Okay, I flipped ahead and saw this). I am a sb/rl fan, but seeing as how Sirius is dead, he can have Tonks as a consolation prize :P Tonks's agsty 360 was a little wierd, but whatevs.
Okay, so I have nothing very intelligent to speculate on. So far this has been one of my favorites of the series. I like all the teenage hormones flyin'. I like all the exposition on Riddle's past because, however disgusting it is, he's one of my favorite characters. I like Snape's character exposition. And finally, Harry is finally shaping up into someone a little interesting. Not to mention, GASP! This book had a plot! I haven't read all the way to the end of the book yet, I'm only on Horcruxes, so please no spoily comments. I do know who died, though, because that was the first thing I saw flipping through the book. *cry* EDIT: Okay, I did think of something intelligent to say. I hate how Tom had absolutely no layers. At all. He was just crazy evil. Period. Why do her villians have zero to naught dimension?

Date: 2005-07-19 08:23 pm (UTC)Tom had layers! They were just thin ones. I don't remember how far into the penseive scenes the horcruxes chapter is so I won't say anything, but I think his evil is a combo of Dumbledore's ineptitude and Tom's own background.

Date: 2005-07-20 04:22 pm (UTC)That's true, if Dumbledore had been more strict with Tom, maybe he wouldn't have turned out the way he did. If someone had paid attention to the kid, they might have been able to counteract the genetics. But he grew up neglected in an Orphanage and obsessed over death because his mother had died and left him there, alone. And all Dumbledore does is analyze the poor kid like he's a mental patient.
I think that's why when Dumbledore drank the potion, he was pleading it was his fault, and to kill him instead. He knows Tom was partially his fault. Ah, poor inept DD.
